Patter of Tiny Paws

Actually her paws are not so tiny, for a puppy. She's 10 weeks old, and has made herself at home. Ikey isn't so sure about her, acting out and hiding in the shrubbery. She answers to her name, "Buffy" with a little yip.

Bob Hope's Best Movie Line

We were watching 'Alias Jesse James' tonight, filmed in 1959.
DH asked me if Bob Hope was still alive. He died at age 100, in 2003. Always a comedian, when his wife asked him, on his deathbed, where he wanted to be buried, he reportedly said, "Surprise me."

This film with the funny line is older than me, even:

Bitten!

Last night I left the piano and returned to the pew where my coat lay. Picked up the coat and laid across my legs to ward off the chill in the air. Suddenly my right thigh felt as though something was stinging it.... I flung back the coat and a big bee fell to the floor. I guess it was a hornet, sort of gold color and bigger than a bee. I grabbed my purse and coat, told the lady sitting beside me that I had been stung and had to leave and rushed to the car.

Dialed Daddy Senior and told him to come look for me on the side of the road if I was not home in the time it takes to drive three miles. I've had shots for allergy to wasp stings; have never been stung by a hornet that I can remember, but swell terribly when stung by a honey bee. There was throbbing pain in my leg.

When I got home, I had a whelp the size of Daddy Senior's thumb on the back of my upper thigh. I took the whole adult dose of 'purple medicine' and medicated my outside with everything I could find that mediates allergic reactions, including ice. Before we went to bed, it had swollen much larger.

Today there's an area the size of my palm that is red, hot and tender. Taking a NSAID and applying hydrocortisone cream reduces the discomfort and heat somewhat.

The only bright spot in all this is, it took my mind off the pain in my left knee for a while.

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy

January 2, 1941 Andrews Sisters record "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"

The Andrews Sisters record "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" on Decca Records. The song, which became a classic World War II hit, was heard in the Abbott and Costello film Buck Privates. The Andrews Sisters were the most popular "girl group" of their time, selling millions of records and setting the stage for the "girl group era" of the mid-1960s, which spawned hundreds of all-women vocal groups including The Shirelles, The Shangri-las, The Crystals, and The Supremes.

The Queen of Outrageous, Bette Midler does a great job with this song, half a century later.

Youtube also has vids of the Andrews Sisters appearing on Dean Martins' show, if you like later appearances.

Resolve to Comment, Please

I resolve to learn something new every day. Sometimes I am amazed how simple things just escape my notice. Today's example is that I finally figured out how to make the comment box appear underneath the post when a reader clicks on 'comments' rather than some little window over on the side. Amazing.

Now that it's easier, please leave a comment, if only to say Hello.

Thank you!
