Okay, I'm going to ask my characteristic dumb question...does it only bloom at night?

Epiphyllum only blooms at night. It is fully open between 10 and 11 pm. As soon as good daylight comes, it closes. The bloom can be removed as soon as it is wide open and salvaged for seeing and smelling the next day. I put the blooms in a plastic bag and put in the refrigerator. I've kept them until the next evening and carried them in small cooler to friends for their brief enjoyment.

Angel Trumpets on the other hand open after dark and then the blooms last a couple of days. They partly close in the daytime and open wide the next night.
