A packet of Giant Cactus Mixed Colors Zinnia seeds cost a quarter at the dollar store. Started early indoors, planted out in a bare spot just right for a tiny row of Zinnias they'll bloom until frost.
First to bloom was a lovely golden orange, followed by this and now shades of yellow and a bright pink.
Butterflies are mostly ignoring these in favor of Lantana, Tithonia and Pentas but toward fall Zinnias will be a favorite as the tropicals fade a little.
Happy Bloom Day. Join the fun at May Dreams Gardens.

The cactus zinnia bloom is really lovely and such a delicate shade. I'll have to try them again (they didn't come up for me last year).
I am late coming to zinnias, but two things happened last summer: I bought a large container of them in late August at a local nursery, and with deadheading, watering and a little fertilizer, they bloomed until a killing frost. Then I also visited the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens in mid-August, and they had huge zinnias (maybe State Fair?) in their Victorian garden. I was smitten. I have one Green Envy one and a host of other colours planted out and just starting to bloom now. I'm a believer! Maybe next year I'll try the big cactus flowered ones. Great post. :-)
i love that you paid so little for the seeds to grow your giant Zinnias! They are so beautiful. Zinnias bring so much to the garden....so many colors.
That's so pretty! I'm enjoying my zinnias this year :)
That sure is a beauty! I don't remember what kind of zinnias I planted, but they are in an area not protected from rabbits, and they are taking full advantage of it.
The zinnia is fantastic...all growing season I have seen hummingbirds daily (except when my mother came to visit, I think she may be too animated for them)..while watching them I had learned to have a new appreciation for them....yours in the picture is exquisite!
I love your Zinnia, what a gorgeous colour. I can't imagine why I don't grow it. And you have Pentas too? I can' t grow them at all. Have any photos of them?
It doesn't look like your zinnias are "just getting started" to me...looks like they are in full force! I'll have to give this variety a shot in the future.
The Zinnias and I thank you for all the kind comments. Envy was my Mother's favorite.
Chloris, I have Pentas in red, shades of pink and white. A white seeded itself in the greenhouse floor, to my delight. I'll post Pentas photos soon.
I bet was the envy of all your Mother's friends
unusual and lovely coloured zinnias. Happy Bloom Day, Jean.
